A Call for Passionate Student Writers and Digital Media Developers

 

Are you a student with a passion for West Virginia, modern Appalachian culture, and sense of place? Are you an aspiring writer, journalist, digital media developer looking for an outlet for publication? Join Vandaleer and help change how West Virginia communities perceive themselves and in turn how the world perceives West Virginia.

Founded in 2015, Vandaleer operates community-centric, human-interest news sites across West Virginia which are helping redefine the narrative of our communities and showcase modern West Virginia culture.

Vandaleer is looking for young, energetic students to engage with one or more of our communities to write articles or produce media for publication.

Students will be provided with potential local subject matter generated by each community’s publication team. Students are welcome to pitch their own story idea to the team. The student will be given a lot of freedom in deciding the subject and format.

What you can expect from us:

  • Exposure on one or more of Vandaleer’s community websites
    Exposure through our growing social media reach
    Profile page on the site with short biography, photo, links to website or other work editorial feedback and coaching
    Choice of subject and format
    The chance to develop your skills as a writer, digital developer, or producer

What we expect from you:

  • Passion for creating engaging stories that dig deep into the soul of West Virginia english skills equivalent to those of a native speaker
    Interest and engagement in social media
    Ability to meet deadlines
