We know that a person’s decision to stay or leave a place is a complex one but we at Generation West Virginia believe too many young people leave without knowing about the assets we do have for young people in this state. So we are thrilled to be kicking off the first-ever YP Week WV in September. YP Week is put on by young West Virginians for young West Virginians featuring opportunities that highlight why so many choose this place: access to community leaders, professional development, connection to our community’s greatest assets, arts and cultural events, forums for our ideas to be heard, and important connection to our peers.
YP Week is a weeklong celebration of young professionals in West Virginia with events all around the state hosted by our 11 Generation Chapters. From September 10-18, events will range from social gatherings to adventurous outings to meaningful conversations about the issues that matter among young professionals in West Virginia. YP Week offers engaging events hosted by and for young West Virginians while also educating employers, communities, and the state on the important role these functions play in retaining young talent. Stay tuned for more information as it gets closer!
Everyone who calls West Virginia home knows the beauty of the mountains is one of the reasons they choose to live here. But these mountains can keep us isolated in our own communities. YP Week is an important tool to forge connections between young people throughout the state to encourage conversations and collaborations about how to move the state forward.
YP Week is an exhibition, a celebration, and a vision. It’s an opportunity to exhibit some of the many the good things that are going on in West Virginia, to connect with our assets. It’s a celebration of the amazing young people who could live anywhere but choose to call this beautiful state home including the dedicated young leadership of Generation Chapters all over the state. It’s also a vision for a West Virginia that puts the values and motivations of young talent front and center, not as an afterthought.
So let’s learn something new, see a new view, meet a new friend, and maybe, just maybe, see a new side of West Virginia. Check out YPWeekWV.com and look out on our social media pages for news and photos from these events, or search the social sphere for #GWVYP to see posts about the awesome happenings across the Mountain State.
